The Danish newspaper reported that the closure of the Torkham and Chaman border crossings has put Pakistan’s $200 million medicine exports to Afghanistan at risk.

The media outlet stated that hundreds of trucks carrying antibiotics, insulin, vaccines, and essential medicines are stranded in the heat and unsuitable conditions, with a risk of spoilage. The Taliban’s Ministry of Finance had previously instructed Afghan traders to halt imports of Pakistani medicine.

Pakistani medicine, due to its affordability and quick availability, supplied a large portion of Afghanistan’s pharmaceutical market. Over 400 Afghan companies are involved in importing medicines and medical equipment from various countries, with the annual value of these imports reaching tens of millions of dollars.
