Following the closure of trade routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the export of chicks from Iran to Afghanistan has resumed. The Iranian news agency IRNA reported that this process began earlier this week, and so far 250,000 chicks have been exported to Afghanistan via the Dogharoon border crossing.
According to Iranian sources, chick exports from Iran to Afghanistan had been halted over the past year, with Afghanistan’s market largely supplied through Pakistan. However, since the closure of trade routes in October, Afghan traders have turned back to the Iranian market.
Amid these developments, prices for eggs and chicken meat have risen in many Afghan provinces. Despite poultry farms operating in some regions, domestic production is insufficient to meet market demand, and reliance on imports continues.
