Fawzia Koofi, former member of Afghanistan’s House of Representatives, has criticized India’s decision to accept a Taliban-appointed diplomat, describing the move as a sign that political interests have overtaken principles and values.

Referring to the shift in Afghans’ perception of India after the events of 2021, Koofi said governments and global powers remain committed to values only as long as their political interests are served. She stressed that international politics is now driven by calculations, money, and proxy dynamics rather than ethical commitments.

Koofi warned that the Taliban have become proxy actors in broader regional rivalries, turning Afghanistan once again into a battleground for competing powers.

In the background to these remarks, The Hindu reported that for the first time since the Taliban returned to power, a Taliban-appointed diplomat has arrived in New Delhi and is set to take charge of Afghanistan’s embassy in India.
