The Afghanistan Women’s Lantern of Freedom Movement, in a statement, strongly condemned the Kabul administration’s new law—which, according to the movement, legitimizes slavery in Afghanistan—and described it as a crime against humanity and a direct attack on human dignity, especially that of women.

The statement says that this law has neither religious legitimacy nor a legal basis, nor any place in human values, and that reducing human beings to the status of “property” and “commodities” signals the complete collapse of justice, morality, and human responsibility. The movement emphasized that no power, fatwa, or decree has the right to strip humans of their freedom, agency, and dignity.

The movement also described the silence of the so-called Supreme Court regarding this law as “complicity in crime,” stating that the inaction of an institution meant to defend justice has contributed to legitimizing oppression.

The statement further notes that the enforced silence of the Afghan people does not indicate consent, but is the result of repression, threats, and poverty, and that despite widespread pressure, Afghan women continue to stand firm and protest.

The Afghanistan Women’s Lantern of Freedom Movement warned that this law and the silence surrounding it will be recorded in history, and that those responsible and those who justify it will one day be held accountable.
